An estimated 20.8 billion objects will be connected to the Internet by 2010.

If the saying that “anything that can be connected, will be connected” is true, then IoT will dramatically change the way we interact with all of the physical objects, which will change almost every aspect of our daily lives. The opportunities and connections that IoT creates are so vast that we aren't even able to think of or fully comprehend the impact of how IoT will change our lives. According to the Nov. 10, 2015 Garner Report, by 2016, we can expect to see 6.4 billion connected objects and an IoT market that will support a total of $235 billion of spending on services. By 2020, the Gartner Report predicts that the number of connected objects will grow to 20.8 billion.

Along with the opportunities, IoT brings many challenges, such as security and privacy, all of which require a multidisciplinary approach and surroundings that conducive to testing the concept in a real world environment – a kind of living laboratory or microcosm of the larger world outside. Yokneam's unique mix of many different technologies and life styles all located in a small town atmosphere provide just that environment – one that is ideal for developing and testing IoT.
